Stereotype

If dissidence still has a real meaning, then music like Stereotype is what can result. The duo, consisting of Meshcut and Xeen, met in Tehran’s small, secluded, defiant underground scene. A scene that developed into a creative hub in a secret house out of sight of the moral guardians. During the Covid pandemic, the two Tehran residents joined forces and developed a dark industrial sound in which soken-word fragments meet violently oscillating synth basslines and crashing, syncopated beats. But in 2023, the two artists no longer wanted to make music under the repressive regime, always at risk of being caught and arrested. Thus began a journey via Istanbul to Paris, where they are now based, broadcasting music from the diaspora in Europe.

Stereotype’s performance at Pop-Kultur will be contextualised by a concert with Esfand and the »Sound of the Revolution« talk with Matthias Koch and Bahar Roshanai.
