James K

James K is the house and ambient persona of visual artist Jamie Krasner. Krasner, who has lived in Berlin for several years, has already released multiple records under her alias, for labels such as Dial and Incienso, run by New York left-field house aggregator Anthony Naples. For her own productions as well as her popular bi-monthly NTS show »Trip Lick«, the following applies: At the beginning of every track is a sample, either from found material or recorded by herself on the guitar. What follows is noisy and elegant, somewhere between ambient, acousmatic and computer music, sometimes even post-punk. But James K has no great interest in genre boundaries, instead aiming to use music to capture emotions. In an interview, she appropriately referred to music as her »diary« – perhaps she will tell us how she fills it in her workshop at Pop-Kultur 2024.
