GHOSTWOMAN

What many people surely think of when they hear the often misused term psychedelic rock (expansive soundscapes etc.) has less to do with what genre pioneers like the 13th Floor Elevators produced in the sixties. Sure, this music was definitely trippy, but it was also grungy and sounded like it came from a garage. The noisy American-Belgian duo GHOSTWOMAN are clearly orientated towards the golden era of this style, so it’s not just frontman Evan Uschenko’s voice that is drenched in reverb, but everything else as well. However, since the official arrival of drummer Ille van Dessel (linked to Uschenko’s move to Belgium) and their new album »Hindsight is 50/50«, GHOSTWOMAN also evoke the gloom of post-punk, occasionally recalling The Fall, Nick Cave, and even The White Stripes, aiming to hypnotise rather than knock you out. In the sense of, »We’ll play this riff for five minutes and then win the crowd over.« Right on.
