Young woman dressed in black panties, black overknee boots and a colourful, wildly patterned blazer squats in front of a turquoise wall on a flower-printed fabric. Gaye Su Akyol's long black hair covers her upper body, which is seemingly naked under the jacket. Her eyes are strikingly made up, she wears long poison green fingernails and looks serious into the camera.

Gaye Su Akyol

Anatolian rock with glitter, a punk attitude, and rebellious swagger: that’s Gaye Su Akyol. As a teen, the musician was a Nirvana fan – and from there, went on to become one of the driving forces behind the rediscovery and reformulation of Turkish psychedelic rock. Her take on it is particularly brash, and it’s not for nothing that her latest album is called »Anatole Ejderi«, meaning »Anatolian Dragon«. This dragon can not only breathe fire – no, Gaye Su Akyol effortlessly manages to bridge the gap between Elle covers and political commentary, and incidentally collect fans all over the world, including a certain Iggy Pop, no big deal. If you’re not a fan yet, you’ll become one at her concert in Kesselhaus.
