EsRAP

Esra and Enes Özmen are a sibling duo from the 16th district aka Vienna-Ottakring. Growing up among working-class children with roots in Turkey, Kurdistan, and the Balkans, they developed a love for hip-hop and spoken word. EsRAP received thorough praise for their 2019 debut album »Tschuschistan«, especially for its use of Turkish-Anatolian instruments and samples, which flowed seamlessly into typical hip-hop sounds (e.g. fat bass), generating enthusiasm among the media as well as the scene. Esra’s rhymes in particular are representative of the language of the Viennese streets with its very specific, multi-ethnic slang containing traces from all over the world. Not for nothing was EsRAP also part of the documentary »Vienna Calling«, a film surveying the Viennese (underground) scene.
