Commissioned Works
Pop-Kultur is a six-day festival for pop culture in all its forms – with live concerts, DJ sets, experimental music formats, talks, workshops, and networking – in Berlin. But what happens when artists are given complete freedom to create? They deliver the unexpected. See for yourself – as they present bold, experimental Commissioned Works, created exclusively for the festival and performed live for the very first time.
Pop-Kultur wants to support pop culture – in a sustainable way. Since 2017, the festival has been presenting a series of Commissioned Works, developed especially for Pop-Kultur and premiered at the festival. The Commissioned Works take into account the lack of discursive spaces within pop music and that artists living precariously don’t have enough opportunities for reflection and experimentation. Commissioned Works allow artists to critically engage with the topics that concern them without first having to think about economic viability. This means that each year, audiences can expect a number of transmedial, interdisciplinary, border-crossing and overwhelming world premieres!
Commissioned Works are supported by Initiative Musik gemeinnützige Projektgesellschaft mbH with project funds from the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media.
