Pillow Fite

Art Ross and Aaron Green come from Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. Their origins from the (cultural) periphery of their country also shaped the genesis of their band Pillow Fite – during the pandemic-related restrictions in Canada, the two musicians started by sending song ideas back and forth online. When they could finally meet again in real life, they went straight into the rehearsal room, soon recording their first demos – including a heartbreaking Joni Mitchell cover. In an intimate duo formation with electric and Western guitar, banjo, and mandolin, Pillow Fite began to develop their own sound, which they describe as alt-folk. At times the music is reminiscent of Wye Oak, Florence & The Machine and faintly of »Funerals«, Arcade Fire’s debut LP – just all a bit smaller, more delicate, more vulnerable. As a non-binary artist Art Ross is also a strong advocate for trans visibility.
