Blinky Bill
Kenyan multi-talent Bill Sellanga chose his pseudonym Blinky Bill after he saw his real name in the newspaper and suddenly thought it was boring. Listening to his experimental and atypical songs, one quickly realises that he approaches music in a very similar way: a single genre would be dull. Blinky Bill is into African music just as much as hip-hop, jazz, and seventies funk. He mixes rap with melodic vocals, makes contemporary beat production sound like organic drums and vice versa. The fact that Blinky Bill started out as a DJ is also clear, as he constantly builds up syncopated rhythms and reflects them physically in his body movement. His colourful tracks are always moving in several directions at once, undoubtedly current without hiding their stylistic origins. At Pop-Kultur, he will present his new, self-produced album »We Cut Keys 2« live in Germany for the first time.
