A Certain Ratio

The word »legend« is not something that should be tossed around carelessly. Especially nowadays, when any meme or even its creator can all too quickly be considered legendary. But with Manchester band A Certain Ratio, founded in 1977 (!), you can use it without hesitation. After all, the band has released on British uber-indie labels Factory Records (also the home of Joy Division) and Mute (where Depeche Mode’s global career began) and played at the equally (rightly) legendary Hacienda Club. After keeping a somewhat lower profile in the nineties, the band had a second coming in synch with the post-punk revival of the noughties – and now even a third. And A Certain Ratio aren’t just interested in administering their back catalogue, consistently releasing new music. Most recently, »1982«, the band’s eleventh studio album in the 46th year of the band’s history, was released last year. If that’s not legendary, what is?
