Pierre Boulez Saal

Pierre Boulez Saal, a circular concert hall, is seen from above. The audience sits in several rising rows around the center. In the middle, there is a stage with chairs, microphone stands, and instruments. The floor is made of wood. Stairs and railings run between the seating rows upward.

The Pierre Boulez Saal, designed by Frank Gehry, opened in March 2017 and is housed together with the Barenboim-Said Akademie, a state-recognised music academy, in the former storage building of the Staatsoper Unter den Linden in the heart of Berlin. Its distinctive elliptical space creates a unique dialogue between sound and architecture, offering almost limitless ways to experience music – from solo recitals and chamber music to full orchestral concerts. In 2026, it will host concerts as part of the Pop-Kultur Festival for the very first time.
