Sorvina draws on multiple traditions within African American music history and weaves them into a sonic language entirely her own. At the core, the New York-born, Berlin-based artist is a detail-driven conscious rapper, translating the complexity of life into thoughtful storytelling. But there is far more to her music: layered jazz harmonies, acoustic folk reminiscences, expansive soul passages, the spirituality of gospel – and, above all, humour.
Together with her five-piece band, Sorvina moves fluidly through grooves and narratives alike, turning to themes of queerness, self-discovery, and philosophical reflection. Her music invites listeners to recognise something of themselves within it, balancing sharp insights with lightness and wit – in short, with everything life has to offer. Anyone drawn to the jazz-inflected elegance of poetry rappers such as Little Simz or Noname will find plenty to love here. In Berlin, the growing resonance around her work is already palpable.
