Sijya stands in the foreground in front of a blurred cityscape. She wears a dark leather jacket. Her head is slightly tilted to the side. The image shows a red light gradient with a blurred background. Buildings are visible in the background.
Sijya

With her compositions and productions, Sijya moves through the dynamic tension between art pop, downtempo, and ambient. She uses her voice with striking versatility: at times in the classic lead role of a song, at others as an instrumental element that blends harmonically into her expansive synth landscapes.

On her current EP »Leather & Brass«, released via One Little Independent Records – alongside fellow label artists such as Björk, Cody ChesnuTT, and Nadah El Shazly – the New Delhi-born artist explores the density and contradictions within her artistic expression. Distorted synths, routed through worn-out guitar pedals, meet vulnerable, deliberately untreated vocal recordings, creating a sonic contrast in which a surprising dialogue unfolds.

In keeping with this, she sometimes shares her emotions with listeners in an openly direct way, while in other moments she remains intentionally elusive. In the songs, and equally in the visual world shaped by Sijya, much remains open – not out of indecision, but as an invitation for the audience to experience meaning rather than have it explained.
