Driving drum beats pulse towards ecstasy, strobe lights flicker in time – all in the spirit of dancing until morning with crashing synth bass in your ears. And yet this has very little to do with conventional dance music. Paris duo Potochkine fuse electronic body music (EBM), techno, punk, and darkwave, lifting it all onto an artfully avant-garde plane through theatrical staging.

There is something almost poetic in the way Potochkine intertwine their synth-punk grooves with French-language spoken-word passages, extending the whole into a visual dimension whose darkness leaves a lasting impression. Founded in the 2010s, the duo’s roots lie in theatre and performance art – an influence that remains impossible to miss.
