For many years, Oska Wald has moved effortlessly between music, comics, painting, and publishing. As the frontman of the Berlin garage punk bands Chuckamuck and Die Verlierer, a comic artist, and the founder of Krill Verlag, he has developed an artistic practice in which pop culture, the underground, and graphic storytelling continually feed into one another. Through his publishing house, he brings international independent comics to Germany, most recently publishing Max Andersson’s graphic novel »Die Ausgrabung«.

His solo work follows the same approach. On »Motel Reno«, Oska Wald combines sketch-like lo-fi songs, power pop, and Dadaist humour with a finely tuned ear for memorable melodies. His songs tell stories of Berlin, everyday observations, and seemingly incidental moments that unexpectedly reveal themselves as small reflections on life – sometimes deadpan, sometimes absurd, and always marked by a deep affection for the imperfect. The result is a distinctive artistic voice that resists easy categorisation and draws its particular appeal from precisely that openness.

The concert is presented by the VUT – Association of Independent Musicians and Music Companies.
