Drawing on the biblical creation myth, Lucy Kruger & The Lost Boys return to the origins of human existence with »Animal / Symbol« – to a place where curiosity and disobedience first became entwined with shame. What does it mean to go back there and create something new?

Set within a surreal garden, the performance centres on a figure moving through an inherited landscape without ever fully understanding it. As it unfolds, »Animal / Symbol« becomes a reflection on what we carry forward from those who came before us: stories, rituals, and fears that continue to reverberate within us.

The work navigates the tension between the human mind reaching outward – imagining symbols and future worlds – and the body remaining bound to the earth, entangled in growth and decay, pain and impermanence.

Together with filmmaker and lighting designer Aljoša Dakić and scenographer Jana Wassong, Lucy Kruger & The Lost Boys create an atmospheric complexity of light and, above all, shadow, woven into the space in a tactile and singular way. Musically, fragile, ethereal textures meet darker, propulsive elements, blurring the boundaries between the sublime and the subversive.
