Music should be art, not competition – but this detail still commands respect: Josi Miller actually won her very first turntables at the age of sixteen in a DJ competition. Quite something.

During the 2010s, she performed live behind the decks for artists including Trettmann. Today, however, she has long since taken centre stage in her own right. Last autumn, after a string of singles and EPs, her widely acclaimed debut album »4 Stages Of Sleep« finally arrived via Grönland Records. Sleep, dreams, staying up until morning: Josi Miller has sharpened her focus on the night and shaped nothing less than a concept album around it.

There is a magnetic pull to this music: driving beats, a voice charged with longing, arrangements that repeatedly take unexpected turns – all poised on the threshold between dancefloor and deep listening. Breakbeat meets pop, while soul samples ground shimmering passages of electronica. The Leipzig-born artist has also firmly established herself as an in-demand producer for other acts.
