Gîn Bali

Kurdish-German guitarist, producer, DJ, composer, and community organiser Gîn Bali brings together a wide range of musical traditions and contemporary sounds in her work. Building on a classical guitar education, she has developed a sound in which Global Bass, dubstep, jungle, drum’n’bass, hip-hop, deconstructed club, industrial music, and Kurdish pop coexist with complete ease. Rather than an exercise in genre-hopping, her work asks how music can connect different stories, experiences, and communities.

As an organiser, booker, and board member of the Cologne-based association YAYA, Gîn Bali has spent years creating spaces for exchange, visibility, and cultural participation. Through projects such as »YAYAcc« and her work in the fields of awareness and diversity, she understands culture not only as an artistic practice but also as a form of social infrastructure.

Beyond clubs and concert venues, she continues to explore new ways of connecting music with social and cultural reflection. Since the 2023/24 season, she has been responsible for the musical framework of »Materien«, the discussion series curated by author Fatma Aydemir at Theater and Philharmonie Essen.

Gîn Bali represents a generation of artists for whom production, mediation, community work, and political practice are not separate fields but interconnected forms of activity. Her work understands music as an open process – a place where different perspectives, memories, and multiple visions of the future can meet.
