Mannheim trio ENGIN show what German indie pop can sound like in 2026 – unmistakably global in its inspirations. In their case, that means Anadolu rock, US psychedelia and Britpop – and just about everything except formulaic pop or overly sentimental indie.

Engin Devekiran (vocals and guitar), Jonas Stiegler (drums), and David Knevels (bass) have known one another partly since childhood, partly from their university days. With their album »Sag mir Almanya«, they place Germany on the analyst’s couch. It is no coincidence that Devekiran studied psychology, and on the title track he pointedly asks Germany to finally go to therapy. A good idea.

But ENGIN’s songs reach far beyond »Almanya«. Working multilingually – and for the first time including Devekiran’s own lyrics in Turkish – the band explore identity, love, longing, and growing up. Fans dance to it both in Turkey and Germany – and far beyond. Soon, they will be doing the same at the Pop-Kultur Festival 2026.
