distraction4ever
Forever distracted – perhaps the perfect band name for a world shaped by social media and the horror of the present. Yet distraction4ever plunge headlong in the opposite direction. The Montréal duo embrace a synth-loaded post-punk sound that recalls both Russian new wave and the earliest days of Neue Deutsche Welle in the 1980s.
It feels especially fitting, then, that Beau Geste and Splitshift, the two producers behind distraction4ever, collaborate on their new album »Business Core« with Berlin musician Carlo Karacho, who pursues a similarly aligned sonic approach.
The follow-up to their debut »Please Don’t Think About Tomorrow« more broadly celebrates a no-future hedonism that feels uncannily suited to the present moment, driven by a soundtrack of distorted vocals, broken amps, analogue synths, and propulsive drums. The Berlin–Montréal axis is alive and well, and distraction4ever are proof of it.
