Discovery Zone

Live, Saturday, 29.8.2026, 21:40–22:20, Kulturbrauerei (Palais)
The image shows the artist Discovery Zone in front of a neutral background illuminated by soft colored light in yellow and blue tones. She stands slightly turned to the side and looks downward. Her hair is parted in the middle and loosely tied back, with a few strands falling across her face. She wears a dark sleeveless top with frayed edges over a light shirt. Soft shadows are visible on the wall behind her.

Discovery Zone is the name JJ Weihl gave her solo project after a chain of indoor playgrounds she grew up with in New York. It feels entirely fitting: the multimedia world Weihl has built through Discovery Zone is just as playful and nostalgic as it is future-facing.

On albums such as »Remote Control« and »Quantum Web«, she explores themes including personal memory culture and the shifting boundary between the human and the posthuman in an increasingly digitised world. Soft, at times almost meditative synth-dance-pop meets avant-garde impulses, while near-baroque instrumentation – theremin, electric guitar, and synths – converges with video installations and the uncanny valley.

Following her deeply emotional »Commissioned Work« performance »Cybernetica« in 2021, Discovery Zone returns this year with brand-new music to her former chosen home of Berlin – and to the Pop-Kultur Festival.
