Deutsche Laichen

First came the name, then the band. Berlin outfit Deutsche Laichen are among the most compelling punk acts currently on the circuit. Marking their tenth anniversary – and around five years after their debut album, aptly titled »Demo Tape« – they released its successor this spring: »Punk ist scheiße, Punk ist geil«, produced by Moses Schneider. Their work revolves around punk as both attitude and scene – an exploration of deeply ingrained narratives, community, chosen families, projections, and identities. It is always clearly queer-feminist, political, and shaped by a collective approach to both music and life: tender, furious, serious, emancipatory, and, at times, unexpectedly humorous. An evening with Deutsche Laichen is intense and charged with tension, sending audiences home thoroughly sweat-soaked – and with far more questions than answers.
