Boko Yout

It’s relatively rare for journalists and Instagram or YouTube music influencers to be fully on the same wavelength. With the Swedish quartet Boko Yout, that is genuinely the case. Since their first signs of life in 2022, the buzz around them has built like carbonation in kombucha – slowly, but inevitably.

With their full-length debut »Gusto«, following several EPs and wildly hyped videos – including the album’s lead single of the same name – the pressure is finally being released. And it happens like a big bang: untamed, charged with references to the ’90s (Fugazi) and the 2000s (Bloc Party). The band built around frontman Paul Adamah delivers across the board with intense stage presence and raw, high-energy drums.

Subtle electronic accents, alongside nods to Afrobeat and grunge, give the whole project a distinct flavour that hits straight to the core. »Gusto« is, let’s call it, the alt-rock album of the moment – and on stage, the band unleashes a level of energy that is rarely seen.
