Bella Wakame

Berlin duo Bella Wakame present a far-reaching – and above all, joyfully playful – debut with their self-titled album. Rich in electroacoustic textures and melodic invention, it feels perfectly attuned to a live setting.

Influences from krautrock, minimalism, and Japanese avant-garde surface throughout, yet never push themselves to the fore. Instead, the pair unfold a musical language of their own: intricately detailed and immediately accessible. Clattering percussion and modular synthesis interlock into music full of surprise, shaped by forward-driving rhythms and finely woven structures.

Andi Haberl brings an organic core to the sound through drums and subtle percussive elements, while Florian Zimmer uses modular synthesis to sketch out fluid, often unpredictable sonic spaces. Together, they create pieces in constant motion.

Within the sound of Bella Wakame, fragile textures are taken apart, reassembled, and shaped into groove-driven, open forms. It is a seamless fusion of experimentation and accessibility – a sound that vibrates, shifts, and continually unfolds.
