EVÎN, Pamela Owusu-Brenyah

EVÎN belongs to a generation of artists who have long since dissolved the boundaries between songwriting, production, and performance. Her sound moves effortlessly between R&B, soul, electronica, and the influences of her Kurdish heritage – intimate, atmospheric, and internationally minded. Her musical signature can be heard not only in her own releases but also across major international productions. Most recently, she contributed as a vocalist and producer to Drake’s tracks »What Did I Miss?« and »Janice STFU«.

Beginning with a shared listening session, EVÎN joins host Pamela Owusu-Brenyah to discuss her creative process, offering insights into songwriting, vocal sampling, arrangement, and her search for a sound that deliberately resists stylistic labels. The conversation centres on her musical journey, her inspirations, and her work as a producer and songwriter. How does a distinctive sonic identity emerge? How is an artistic voice developed? And what does it take to move from Berlin’s music scene into international recording studios? Why do women producers remain so often invisible? Which structural barriers do FLINTA artists continue to face? And why does representation only become meaningful when it is accompanied by artistic autonomy and structural participation?

EVÎN (Kurdish for »love«) moves effortlessly between the roles of producer, songwriter, and musician. Her work combines soul, electronica, jazz, and Kurdish influences into richly atmospheric soundscapes. Alongside her own artistic project, she has earned production and songwriting credits for artists including Drake, Bryson Tiller, Ludmilla, Kidwild, Souly, Symba, and Zackavelli. In 2023, she was awarded the Female* Producer Prize.

Pamela Owusu-Brenyah works as a curator – including for Pop-Kultur Festival – as well as a cultural strategist and network builder at the intersection of pop music, diversity, and cultural policy. Through initiatives such as Afro x Pop, Music Women* Germany, and the Female* Producer Prize, she has created platforms that understand visibility not as symbolic representation but as a prerequisite for lasting structural change within the music industry.
