Automatic
Taut grooves that practically grit their teeth, slicing synth thuds edged with dissonance, and a vocal delivery so nonchalant it lends the whole thing an undeniable sunglasses cool. Californian trio Automatic make playful post-punk that feels as colourful as it does ghostly.
The two musicians – Izzy Glaudini and Halle Saxon – outfit their analogue-leaning Eighties sound with a blend of pop-inflected New Wave and hazy minimalism. There are echoes of The Go-Go’s throughout – not least because Automatic took their name from one of the band’s songs.
Most recently, the group released their excellent third album »Is It Now?«, which in places feels sleeker and more polished. The result is an energy that also lends their live shows a fresh edge. As support for Tame Impala, IDLES and The Marías, Automatic have already proven their charming sense of urgency – and now bring it to the Pop-Kultur Festival.
