A black-and-white portrait of Annie-Claude Deschênes. She wears a dark top with mesh fabric at the neckline and multiple chains including a wide choker. Her hands are placed at the sides of her head, and her bangs fall over her eyes.

Is this still a regular concert? Or is it already performance art? Perhaps even a competitive eating event, an orgy or a collective hedonistic dinner? With Annie-Claude Deschênes, it is impossible to be entirely sure. Most likely, it is all of these things at once – and unquestionably a Pop-Kultur date not to be missed.

Some music fans may recognise Annie-Claude from the Montreal dance-punk band Duchess Says, where she has been a defining presence within Canada’s DIY scene for well over two decades. With her solo project, Deschênes now pushes beyond every boundary, whether genre conventions or artistic disciplines.

Somewhere between synth-punk, dystopian-futurist minimalism, and art pop, her solo debut »Les Manières de Table« takes table manners as its subject, only to gleefully dismantle them across multiple languages. Crucially, it remains irresistibly danceable.

Annie-Claude Deschênes live is an experience that lingers long after the night itself.
