With »A Body Like a Home«, Peruvian artist and musician Alejandra Cárdenas, aka Ale Hop, develops an audiovisual performance suspended between intimate concert and collective memory. For the first time, the album of the same name is presented as an audiovisual work, centred on the idea of the body as a home. Its rooms unfold through spoken word, field recordings, ghostly violins, guitar textures, grooves, and electronic sounds, forming a sonic memoir of thirteen songs and poems. Cárdenas’ voice acts both as witness and narrator to a story that connects personal experiences of violence, loss, and fractured intimacy with the social tensions of her childhood in Peru – shaped by authoritarian dictatorship, social uprisings, and the deeper scars of colonialism.

Together with an outstanding ensemble from Berlin’s experimental and improvisational scene, Cárdenas brings her richly layered electric guitars into dialogue with the sound worlds of Gibrana Cervantes (violin), Ignacio Briceño (guitar), and Sofía Borges (drums and percussion). In doing so, »A Body Like a Home« becomes a sonic exploration of memory, origin, and resistance – and a powerful stage work that pushes the concert format towards theatre, functioning as a performative approach to the stories behind this multilayered release.
