Akryl

Akryl’s indie pop sounds unmistakably stirred up – as though the Swiss singer were carrying the weight of the world on her own shoulders –, and yet it always remains warm and inviting. Her songs feel as though the Madagascar-born newcomer simply exhales them: softly plucked acoustic guitars, subtle sonic details, and heart-wrenching melodies. Above it all floats that voice – vulnerable, slightly mumbled in the best possible way.

At first, you barely even notice that she is singing in German; the language functions more like an additional texture. And then suddenly a line lingers and unfolds with full force: »Meine Vergänglichkeit raubt mir den Atem« (»My transience takes my breath away«), she sings in »Blumen aus Metall«. Great poetry that somehow still feels weightless.

Musically, the songs move between folk, indie pop, and contemporary production. They breathe, unfold, and retreat again, feeling both intimate and expansive at once. »Blumen aus Metall« captures this strength perfectly: the song initially moves forward with caution before a groove slowly creeps into the second verse, transforming it into an intense indie-pop moment. A sound both delicate and precise, somewhere between Phoebe Bridgers and Solange, fully aware that life is far more complicated than we once imagined.
