»Poptism – Remembrance in Music Culture« (En)
It’s clear that pop culture can be more than just entertainment. Music and popular art in general are a necessity, as they shape our identities and society, helping us to develop our own sense of self and to find groups in order to convey a sense of belonging. Plus, pop music serves as a window to times gone by: Everyone knows that feeling when a song suddenly transports you back to an old situation. »Poptism« will explore the role pop music plays in the collective memory of our society and how different cultures deal with it. Hosted by cultural scientist and author Carmen Herold, the talk will gather author Imran Ayata, performance artist Ariel Efraim Ashbel, and writer Sanaz Azimipour to discuss how pop can help us solve current problems and maintain optimism by evoking memories of bygone times. After all, dealing with the past is always worthwhile – and it’s more fun through the lens of pop music.
The talk will be interpreted live in German Sign Language.
