A full-body portrait of bat zoo in an empty room. He wears a dark sleeveless top and wide trousers, his gaze directed downwards. The image appears minimalist and pared back. Ollà sits outdoors in the grass, surrounded by bright sunlight and foreground blur. She leans slightly back and looks calmly into the camera. Her braided hair is intricately styled. A portrait of NanaBcool in a garden with greenery behind him. He wears a light short-sleeved shirt and looks downwards. Sunlight falls evenly across the scene. ANNY stands against a red background, touching her crocheted red hat. She wears a black top with a leather jacket and looks slightly to the side. The image is marked by bold colour contrasts. A portrait of DammyDaas wearing a brown bandana and brown jacket. He looks directly into the camera with a subtle smile. The background is plain and light. A side portrait of Monica Mussungo against a brown backdrop. She wears striking gold earrings and a dark top, her hair styled in braids. Her gaze is directed forward, beyond the frame. A portrait of Nana D’Artist wearing a black hat and dark jacket. He looks seriously into the camera, with a neutral grey background. The image emphasises clean lines and contrasts.

Pamela Owusu-Brenyahs: »AFRO x POP Unplugged«

»AFRO x POP« is a platform for contemporary African music and culture, with a focus on the Afro-diasporic community in Berlin. It creates spaces for artistic expression, exchange, and visibility – beyond clichéd representations. As part of Pop-Kultur Festival, »AFRO x POP Unplugged« presents an intimate stage format: raw, acoustic, and direct. Here, unplugged means a return to the essentials – music, voice, instrument, expression. No show, no filter, just presence and authenticity.
The spotlight is on exciting new voices from Berlin who haven’t yet performed at Pop-Kultur but stand out for their talent and originality. Curated by Pamela Owusu-Brenyah under the motto »Artists to Watch«, the series features three sessions of around 30 minutes each, showcasing two artists per set. Genre doesn’t matter – whether it’s rap, Afro-fusion, spoken word, or experimental soundscapes. The audience sits on Senegalese mats around the stage. Sobolo, a traditional West African drink, completes the sensory experience.
