Oihane Roach & Poetra Asantewa
Poetry, music, intellect and wit – Poetra Asantewa brings it all together. The multi-faceted Ghanaian artist combines smooth neo-soul beats, pointed sociocritical lyrics and her heartfelt vocals to create songs that address the realities of migration, feminism, mental health, self-acceptance and other issues. Along the way, Asantewa uses her poetry and music to subvert the mainstream role of artists as mere entertainers, using her voice bluntly and unflinchingly to question, closely observe, explore and appreciate. During her residency, she developed a show for Pop-Kultur together with Oihane Roach. In her songs, the Berlin-based singer, songwriter and composer tells transgenerational stories of love and solidarity. With her warm, clear voice and poetic lyrics, Oihane Roach creates a touching sound that moves between soul, singer-songwriter and alternative pop, with her vocals accompanied by a-cappella loops and harmonic keys.
