OG LU

Rapper on the rise OG LU, who describes herself on Instagram as »50% habibti 50% banditi«, is already cool on paper: Not long ago she was involved in the left-wing scene (or as she puts it, »spitting on Nazis«) and living in a squat; today she regularly works as a bouncer and loves Thai boxing, where she fights her way through a male-dominated world just like she does within the German rap scene. With a strikingly deep, haunting voice and her Frankfurt accent, she raps nonchalantly about smoking weed, but also tackles more serious topics. Her lyrics are often marked by a feminist, shall we say, criticism of men (»Sexism sells, das ist der Grund, warum ich Männer disse« [»Sexism sells, that’s why I diss men«]) who can rarely satisfy her and certainly can’t compete with her on the mic. So, stop babbling. Listen. Or, again, in her own words: »Leise, seid leise, weil Lu übernimmt jetzt das Ruder« (»Quiet, be quiet, ’cause now Lu’s taking the wheel«).
