Neta Weiner & Samira Saraya (System Ali) & Hoyah (Tel Aviv-Berlin Residency)
Israeli director, musician, poet, and actor Neta Weiner is the lead singer and accordionist of the multilingual Jewish-Arabic hip-hop ensemble System Ali. With his spoken-word performances and theatre productions the multi-award-winning artist has made a name for himself far beyond the borders of Israel in recent years. Weiner writes and sings in Hebrew, Yiddish, Arabic and English, creating a powerful link between his cultural heritage and his artistic production.
Samira Saraya is an Israeli-Palestinian film, television, and theatre actress, filmmaker, poet, rapper, and spoken-word artist. In her early twenties, the LGBTQ activist began performing as a drag king. For her debut short film »Polygraph«, which centres on an openly lesbian Arab character, the trained theatre and film director won the award for best screenplay at TLVFest 2018.
Hoyah – which means »to be, to become, to exist, to happen« – is a Berlin-based experimental electronic musician, producer and visual artist whose work is distinguished by his collage-like style. His latest record »Set + Setting« is largely based on saxophone samples.
As part of Musicboard’s Tel Aviv-Berlin Co-Creation Residency, the artists are collaborating with an artist from Berlin to develop an exclusive show for Pop-Kultur 2024.
