Mary Ocher
Mary Ocher was already on board at the first Pop-Kultur festival: In 2015, the Russian-Israeli avant-garde artist played with her band The Government in the Berghain Kantine, a concert many are sure to still remember. Seven years later, Ocher was once again a guest at Pop-Kultur, this time as part of a panel in which she spoke about her experiences as the owner of the Underground Institute label.
The daughter of Jewish-Ukrainian parents, Ocher was born in Moscow, grew up in Tel Aviv. She moved to Berlin in 2007, and her first album »War Songs« was released by Haute Areal in 2011. Since then, Mary Ocher has performed all over the world and worked with the likes of King Khan, Die Tödliche Doris, Chicks On Speed and krautrock legend Hans Joachim Irmler.
In her work, Ocher consistently addresses power structures and oppression, serving as a voice of the marginalised. She released a charity EP for Ukraine and is committed to girls’ education in Afghanistan. In autumn 2023, Ocher released the apocalyptic album »Approaching Singularity, the sister album »Your Guide to Revolution« followed in June 2024. Her performance in the Frannz Club will once again be a very special event. We promise!
