Krista Papista
In Krista Papista’s music, the Levantine (Eastern Mediterranean) folk dance dabke meets Balkan beats, electronic sound explorations and hip-hop form a symbiosis, psychedelic experiments go up against rave culture and grunge – all seasoned with a self-confident punk attitude. On her debut album »Fucklore«, Krista Papista shows what boundlessness can sound like. The Nicosia-born, Berlin-based artist doesn’t care about genres or national borders, creating a queer alternative to a world on the brink of splitting into fragments. »Fucklore« instead of folklore. Queer, multilingual, anarchic, melancholic and experimental, Krista Papista’s album deals with period cramps as much as with the murders of migrant women in Cyprus. Radically political pop culture that doesn’t shy away from complex topics. After presenting a Commissioned Work at Pop-Kultur 2023, this year she is making her debut as a DJ at Çaystube – but of course in typical Krista Papista style, with performative elements and boundless fun.
