FÜR ELISE (Elise Neumann & Khan of Finland)
It should be common knowledge that art in general (and music in particular) exists not only as entertainment – it can also fulfil a certain progressive mission. »Ick Mach Welle« is a project aiming to help people with mental disabilities access electronic music, providing them with an outlet and a mental place of freedom. This is also the case for Elise Neumann: the German-born, Barbados-raised singer returned to Berlin two years ago to explore the city’s sheer endless possibilities. People with cognitive impairments rarely find supportive mentors, but Neumann was quickly able to channel her special view of the world into a project with Khan of Finland. The result is playful, partly Caribbean-inspired art-pop – including four-on-the-floor rhythms, layered vocals and hard synths that dissolve into gorgeous harmonies.
