You can tell by his stage name that Fehler Kuti has a sense of humour: It is composed of the German word for »mistake« and of course the Nigerian Afrobeat musician and political activist Fela Kuti. Behind this alias is the artist, curator and cultural anthropologist Julian Warner, who knows something about combining music and politics. On his albums »Schland Is the Place for Me« and »Professional People«, he shows little concern for classical song structures, but all the more for migration policy, neoliberalism and personal experiences of racism. Spiegel magazine called his music »the sound of decolonisation«. With his band, which also includes Markus Acher and Micha Acher from The Notwist, Julian Warner creates an experimental, groovy sound for his humorously ironic and socially critical songs.
