Falana is »changing the sound of global pop«, wrote The New Yorker. And it’s true. Falana belongs to a generation of Nigerian female artists who are currently empowering themselves – yet she sounds completely different from her pop-music colleagues in the country. Falana sings cool lyrics over guitar riffs and basslines, joyfully strolling back and forth between the genres that have influenced her, from soul and pop to R&B and Afrobeat. After growing up in Toronto, the musician found her own songwriting style in her parents’ hometown of Lagos, and she’ll be making her debut German appearance at Pop-Kultur. Finally! Because her live shows are fantastic.
