Arooj Aftab is the first Pakistani musician to win a Grammy. This April, she was awarded in the category »Best Global Music Performance« and was also nominated as »Best New Artist«. Quite rightly, in our opinion. Arooj Aftab, who now lives in Brooklyn, describes her mesmerising music as »neo-Sufi«, blending ghazals with minimalist compositions, jazz with Hindustani classical, folk with poetry. In reviewing »Mohabbat«, the New York Times wrote, »The song doesn’t bridge two worlds; it creates its own.« The song was a highlight from Arooj Aftab’s third album »Vulture Prince«, which the songwriter recorded with musicians from twelve different countries, singing heartbreakingly beautiful songs about relationships, loss and grieving.
