Using simple synth sounds, Σtella has become one of Greece’s most popular indie stars. The legendary Sub Pop label signed the Athens-based visual artist and performer for her latest album, »Up and Away«, and she sounds very different on it. During the recording process, Σtella rediscovered her parents’ record collection from the fifties and sixties, full of Greek folk-pop artists, inspiring her vintage-sounding pop poems on the agonies and raptures of love. With a honeyed voice accompanied by bouzouki and zither alongside drums and bass, Σtella sings about all-consuming affairs and deeper relationships. Like a storyteller who builds a bridge between past and present.
